Chardham Yatra 2021 with FAQs
The holy shrines of Chardham open every year with the advent of summers in April-May and close with the starting of winter months October-November. The Char Dham shrines, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, remain open for pilgrims from Apr-May to Oct-Nov. All the shrines get closed for winters and could be worship at their winter abodes.
Every year during Akshay Tritiya (also known as Akha Teej) the doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri opens for the pilgrims. However, the dates for the door openings of Badrinath is declared on Basant Panchamiand for Kedarnath, it is declared on the day of Maha Shivratri.

Chardham shrines open their gates for pilgrims to take darshan every year in the month of April-May. The exact dates are decided by the notable priests after calculations through the Panchang Hindu calendar.
Badrinath Opening & Closing Dates
Badrinath was opened for pilgrims on May 2021 (Change due to Lockdown) and will close in November. The opening date of Badrinath has been decided on Basant Panchmi and closing dates will be declared on Vijayadashmi. This year the Badrinath temple has been opened in May 2021 and will be closed in Nov 2021.
Kedarnath Opening & Closing Dates
Kedarnath temple gates were opened in April and will be closed on the auspicious day of Bhai Dooj. Every year the opening date of Kedarnath is declared and decided on the day of Maha Shivratri. The closing date of Kedarnath temple is fixed i.e on Bhai Dooj, the gates of Kedarnath shrine get closed for winters. This year the Kedarnath Temple was opened on April 2021. This year the Kedarnath shrine closed its gates for pilgrims on Nov 2021.
Yamunotri Dham was opened for pilgrims on 14 May 2021. Yamunotri temple opens its gates on the occasion of Akshay Tritya each year. The Yamunotri shrine closed its gates for pilgrims on the day of Bhai Dooj. This year the Yamunotri Temple will open on May 2021. This year the Yamunotri shrine closed its gates for pilgrims on Nov 2021.
Gangotri Opening & Closing Dates
Gangotri Temple was opened on 14 May 2021 and will close on the next day of Diwali. Gangotri Dham opens on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritya each year and closed on the day after the Diwali festival, Nov 2021. This year the Gangotri Temple will be opened on May 2021. This year the Gangotri shrine closed its gates for pilgrims on Nov 2021.

From the first week of October up to Diwali festival, snowfall in 4 Dham Temples starts to occur.
Q. Minimum duration are required to visit Char Dham from Delhi or Haridwar/Rishikesh?
From Delhi, a minimum of 12 days and from Haridwar/Rishikesh a minimum of 09 days are required to visit 4 Dham.

Chardham Yatra for the pilgrims opens from April/May to October/November. So, one can plan a trip to Char Dham Temples of Garhwal Himalayas during the monsoon season as well (keep one or two days extra in hand)

The Chardham Temples, especially Kedarnath are situated at an elevation of more than 3,000m from sea level. One needs to be physically fit to accomplish the journey to Chardham Yatra. For this reason, medical certificates with proper tests of Vertigo, Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS), High Blood Pressure and more, ensures that you eligible for the journey.
In addition to this, pilgrims also need a Biometric Certificate which is provided by the Uttarakhand Government. The registration for biometric certificate can be done both online and offline.
Q. Can we find any government-approved prepaid taxi booth available in Delhi /Haridwar/Rishikesh for Char Dham Yatra?
