  • Patient & accompanying Co passenger is granted a medical visa if they are going to another country with the sole purpose for medical treatment. The total duration of the visa is maximum of one year.
  • Most important they should seek medical treatment at reputed/recognized/specialized hospitals in India .
  • Only two attendants are allowed to travel with the patient. They shoud be members of the patient family or close associates.
  • There is a comprehensive list of ailments for which medical visa is granted to India that ranges from cardiac treatment, neurosurgery,ophthalmic disorders, organ transplantations to congenital disorders, radiotherapy,gene therapy,  plastic surgery, joint replacement, tumours, spinal issues cardiac and others.

Essential Requirements

If you are sick than India is an economical and cost effective place to be treated . There are some of the concerns which we need to consider as part of the guidelines .

For the Patients coming from Kenya, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Israel, Nigeria, Pakistan and Somalia should have Yellow Fever Vaccination certificate . Travellers from these countries should have Oral Polio Certificate (OPV) which has to be taken 06 weeks prior to the entry . THE OPV is mandatory obligation for the adult and children .

In order to ascertain and Confirm the Medical Visa – The Indian Mission and Posts will check and authenticate the documents regardless of your country of origin. Apart from this they will also have to submit the medical history that they have received in their own country and communication exchanged with the Hospital/Doctor & the final plan they opted to travel to India for the specialized treatment.

The most important point to note is that medical treatment is allowed and further medical visa is granted only on the basis of treatment provided by the reputable and recognized medical centres.

PAPERWORK AND DOCUMENTATION NEEDED TO GET A MEDICAL TOURISM VISA

Here is a list of important documents you would need to submit in order to apply for a medical tourism visa:

• Passport with 6 months validity (original) and two blank pages.

Two coloured photographs of 2 inch x 2 inch size in white background. The face of the visa applicant should be clear in the photo. Passport size photos are not accepted.

• Photocopy of the passport.

• For applicants under the age of 18, a non-objection certificate signed by both parents is needed.

• Copy of the online visa application form.

• Proof of residential address.

• Proof of required funds.

• Recommendation from the home country doctor to visit particular specialised medical centre for treatment.

• Medical documents of the treatments that are done.

• Passport copy of attendant.

Proof of relation with attendant.

  • An acceptance letter from the concerned hospital. The letter should bear the estimated cost of the treatment and tentative duration of treatment.
  • A copy of the return ticket issued by the airlines or travel agent.

Above documents are mandatory for the compliance in order to obtain the medical Visa . Above are routine papers only which lead to final quality treatment at a most cost effective cost

  • Impotent concerns
    • Minimum time of processing needs to be considered and planned - Departure from Fiji should be after 01 working days post the date of submission of the application.
    • Treatment Flight should after 5 working days if the medical visa application is send by post and payment is made by banker’s cheque. It is because in that case the processing time is 5working days post the acceptance of application as the Embassy also take minimum time
  • Financial Status update& enclosure

Updated bank statement of the applicant (period should not be more than 1 month old) is to be submitted to prove that he/she has sufficient finances to support his/her treatment and medical trip to India.

    • If the applicant is the owner of a company and submits company’s bank statement then all should be authenticated with the appropriate enclosures like copy of a enclosures in support to prove his/ her ownership of the company along with  a letter that confirmshis ownership should be submitted along.
    • There is provision of close kith and kin / relative to extend financial support to the applicant for their treatment& procedures. For the same than the consent letter of the relative stating the willingness to support the patient with the fund for the treatment and travel to India is required along with a copy of his/her latest bank statement (current bank statement)
    • Another alternative if the patient gets financial support from the Ministry of Health, Government of Fiji or any other government department/organization/insurance company then a letter from the concerned government department/organization/insurance company is mandatory to prove financial back up for the treatment. The letter should clearly mention that the Government/ Insurance Company /Ministry/organization will be responsible for the expenses  incurred on the patient’s treatment, travel and stay in India along with the attendant’s.
    • Important: Sometimes Ministry/organization/government/insurance company pays partial sum of the treatment i.e., the cost of the treatment then the applicant is required to submit their latest bank statement to authenticate the submission that they  have sufficient funds for  the expenses incurred in India excluding their treatment.
    • Another criteria is if the patient take a loan for the treatment from FNPF then a letter from FNPF (on letter head) is mandatory document that mentions that it will provide funds to the patient& take responsibility if the expenses and specify the limit of loan amount on the letter.

  • For the non-resident staying in Tonga, Fiji, Tuvalu, Vanuatu,Kiribati,  Nauru and Cook Islands on work/resident/exemption permit seeks medical visa or medical attendant visa then they  have to submit a copy of their work/resident permit. Theyhas to fill an additional form. In that case the processing time of the medical visa will be slightly more than the usual time i.e., 5 – 6 days. For the Handover of the Visa - The applicant will have to arrange for consent letter if the application and submission is made through courier - The authorization letter to the High Commission of India, Suva confirming to hand over his passport, visa and other documents if any to the courier service (specifying its name) or the representative to collect the Visa and original documents submit letter of authorization with the copy of collector id proof (clearly narrating the name and enclose ID proofof the authorized collector and applicantwith attestation and collector signature) .

Online Application for Indian Medical Visa from Fiji

  • Log in to the website https://indianvisaonline.gov.in . and click on Regular Visa Application.
  • General information
  • 1. Medical visa is issued to seek medical treatment in established/ recognised/ specialized hospitals/treatment centers in lndia.
  • 2. Medical visa of a foreigner undergoing treatment in lndia can initially be extended in lndia before expiry of the visa by the State Governments/FRROs on production of medical certificate/advice from established/recognized/specialized hospital/treatment centres in lndia.
  • 3. With a patient only two persons (attendant or family members) can get medical attendant (MED X) visa.
  • 4. Medical attendant visa (MED X) will be co-terminus with the medical visa of the patient.

 

Note: Procedure of Application

 

  • Complete the important details:

*the country you are applying from, high commission,

*Date of birth, nationality, e-mail id,

*Expected date of arrival in India and visa type. Enter the access code and click Continue.

  • The form consists of three pages in total. Fill up each page of the form with your correct details. Click Save and Continue at the bottom after you finish filling up each page.
  • Fill columns of your family address and your profession or occupation.
  • Visa application procedure is same for Medical Tourist Visa or Normal Tourist Visa
  • The Only point of Difference here is that for the Purpose of visit for entering India will be “ Availing Medical Treatment”.
  • Once you that , you would further fill the form Nature of Disease and you opted for India
  • Continue with your medical visa application Information regarding the hospital& treatment in home country & the associate hospital in India, time taken of treatment, expected number of entries/ visits, purpose of visit, expected date of journey, expected time of arrival and departure, other information, details about SAARC country visit and reference updates

** As the Travel is planned for the treatment to India only through NTP Healthcare support system & you do not have a reference in India, then you can provide NTP Healthcare office address .

  • Upload Photo – Please upload the photo and finally take print of the form and keep with you Recent or Normal in your computer.
  • Once you Save and Continue on the last page i.e., third page, a preview containing all your uploaded details will appear.
  • Go through them once again you have option of Click on Modify/Edit if there is any error.
  • Click on Verified &proceed if all the data entered by you is appropriate
  • Follow the set of instructions that pop up on the new window and press OK for final registration. If you want to modify details click Cancel.
  • Then click OK a window will pop up where you would have the option to select the appointment date for submission of application to the Mission Counter. Click on Confirm the Appointment.
  •  Another new screen will open after you have click& confirm on Confirm the Appointment, with two options to Print or Save the online application. Save the online application.It is advisable not to print it immediately as you may lose the application by doing so. Prefer 1st to save than Print
  • There after Click - Print Registered Application to get the hardcopy of the application form.
  • By any chance if you missed to upload your picture in the online application form, then paste it in the photo box on the first page. Make sure the photograph should be according to the specifications i.e., the same size as the box (2inch X 2inch).
  • There after putthe applicant signature on the rectangular box exactly below the photo box. The same needs to be done in the box at the bottom of the second page. 
  • Final step Deposit the application form along with the essential enclosures at the high Mission Counter on the scheduled appointment date, mentioned at the right margin of the application, during the scheduled  hours (0900 hours – 1230 hours).
  • Since the nationals of Cook Islands hold New Zealand passport, they should mention clearly the Cook Islands nationality on the application form.

Medical Visa – Fee for the Fiji Nauru, Tonga, Kirbati, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Cook Islands

 

Fee for the Medical Visa from Fiji to India is FJ$ 172. The payment can be transacted by cash at counter at High Commission’s office. You can also pay by cheque in case the application is sent by Postal Service. Applicants who are other than the nationals of Fiji, Nauru, Tonga, Kirbati, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Cook Islands are charged differently (slightly higher). The fees should be paid in Fiji dollars (local currency only).

 

Medical Visa – Time taken in Processing

 

  • If the medical visa fees is paid in cash and documents are complete than it will take 01 working for the Medical Visa processing .
  • If the medical visa fee payment are done through cheque issued by bank then the processing time will take little longer i.e., 5 – 6 working days. With the clear reason bank would issue the Visa after the cheque clearance& usually I would take 3 days to clear the cheque .Personal cheques are not acceptable.
  • Total time remains same i.e., 5 – 6 days to process medical visa for the other than the native nationals of Fiji, Nauru, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Cook Island.

Initially Government grant it for a year only with maximum three visits . However if there is a requirement again than it would be granted by Ministry of Home affairs solely on the recommendation and advice of the State Government or the Foreign Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) . This all will be additionally enclosed with the medical documents  i.e., authenticating the reason and necessity of the extension by the Hospital and Doctor.

The FRRO or Foreign Regional Registration Office regulates& monitor all the requisite visa,arrival and departure, registration and also the duration of stay of foreigners in India. Foreigners visiting to India for their medical treatment or else needs to register themselves with the FRRO office after their arrival in India.

E-Tourist Visa  withMedical Travel to India

E-tourist visa is granted to the following criteria :

  •  If you are visiting India for the Holidaying (tourism) sight seeing, meet friends and relatives, casual business visit and a normalmedical treatment
  • Visitors who do not have permanent address or business activity in India
  • Passport Validity of more than 6 months
  • Visitors who show enough fund backing and support during the stay in India (fixed date of arrival and Departure)
  • People who are not persona – non – grata to the Government of India

The E-Tourist Visa have validity of 30 days. There is no option of extension with it

The Fees of an e-tourist visa is USD 60 or the equivalent sum in the Indian Rupee per person. Children are as well charged not exempted in any case .
