Eligibility for Medical Visa to India


  • If one seeks medical treatment in reputed/recognized specialized hospitals/treatment centers in India.
  • Up to two attendants who are blood relatives are allowed to accompany the applicant under separate Medical Attendant Visas, their visa validity will be the same as Medical Visa.
  • The following list of ailments (not an exhaustive list) would be of primary consideration: serious ailments like neurosurgery; ophthalmic disorders; heart – related problems; renal disorders; organ transplantation; congenital disorders; gene therapy; radio therapy; plastic surgery; joint replacement, etc.


Important Documents Required for Indian Medical Visa Application:




A medical visa (MED Visa) is granted to a foreigner whose sole purpose of visiting India is to seek medical treatment in specialized /recognized/ established Hospitals/treatment centres in India.


VISA FEE : US$ 252.00 including surcharge of US$ 2.00 /-
Timings for submission of Visa applications: 1000 Hrs to 1200 Hrs on all working days.


Oral polio vaccination/ipv only for residents of seven polio-affected countries including nigeria is a mandatory requirement for visiting india from 01/03/2014. Opv/ipv certificate to be carried along is valid for one year from the date of administering it.


Yellow fever vaccination for all except infants undersix months and polio vac/ipv for all residents, exceptthird country foreign nationals, are compulsoty fortraveling to india.


1. Original passport valid for a minimum of 6 months (or for the validity requested, if greater)

2. A photocopy of the data page of the passport

3. Two photographs of the size of 50mm X 50mm i.e. 2 inch x 2 inch with light backgroundPhotos should be glued on your forms in the box provided on pages 1 and 2 of the online form.

4. Visa application form duly filled in online. Your form should be signed in the box under the photograph on page 1 and at the end of page 2 Your signatures should match with the signature printed on your passport.

5. Applicant must provide his/her own contact details including e-mail id. If found somebody else’s/false, visa may be refused.

6. Typed Referral letter in original on letterhead with contact details, duly stamped and signed from a well reputed hospital/medical institute after examination of the patient’s condition specifying the nature of the patient’s illness and the reason for referring the patient for medical treatment to the established/specialized/recognised medical Institute/hospital concerned in India.

7. Typed Invitation letter on letterhead, duly stamped and signed with contact details, from the hospital/medical Institute in Indiaspecifying the nature of the medical treatment to be undertaken along with the start and end date of this treatment.Indian hospital to email invite to HCI email and (For Lagos: and Detail of attendant/ attendants is to be indicated with mobile number of contact person at the hospital. Applicant is to attach a printout of the invitation and the email page with the visa application form.

8. A certified bank statement of last three months/guarantee letter issued by the bank in the name of the applicant, testifying his/her ability to meet expenses to cover medical and living expenses in India for the duration of the medical treatment. In case of sponsorship, an affidavit from the sponsor along with a copy of his/her Identity Card/Passport copy is to be attached.

9. In case of follow up treatment, previous medical papers and discharge summary from Indian hospital is to be attached to the application (original to be verified by Consular Officer).

10. Patients need to attach copies their treatments in Nigeria including copies of CT Scan/MRI/X-ray reports (as applicable) (original to be verified by Consular Officer)

10. Transplant patients to produce compatibility report of donor and patient.

11. Indian hospital to undertake responsibility of the patient and attendant including immigration till his departure from India. This undertaking is to be included in the invitation letter.

  • Complete the important details:


*the country you are applying from, high commission,

*Date of birth, nationality, e-mail id,

*Expected date of arrival in India and visa type. Enter the access code and click Continue.


  • The form consists of three pages in total. Fill up each page of the form with your correct details. Click Save and Continue at the bottom after you finish filling up each page.
  • Fill columns of your family address and your profession or occupation.


  • Visa application procedure is same for Medical Tourist Visa or Normal Tourist Visa
  • The Only point of Difference here is that for the Purpose of visit for entering India will be “ Availing Medical Treatment”.
  • Once you that , you would further fill the form Nature of Disease and you opted for India


  • Continue with your medical visa application Information regarding the hospital& treatment in home country & the associate hospital in India, time taken of treatment, expected number of entries/ visits, purpose of visit, expected date of journey, expected time of arrival and departure, other information, details about SAARC country visit and reference updates


** As the Travel is planned for the treatment to India only through NTP Healthcare support system & you do not have a reference in India, then you can provide NTP Healthcare office address .


  • Upload Photo – Please upload the photo and finally take print of the form and keep with you Recent or Normal in your computer.
  • Once you Save and Continue on the last page i.e., third page, a preview containing all your uploaded details will appear.
  • Go through them once again you have option of Click on Modify/Edit if there is any error.
  • Click on Verified &proceed if all the data entered by you is appropriate
  • Follow the set of instructions that pop up on the new window and press OK for final registration. If you want to modify details click Cancel.
  • Then click OK a window will pop up where you would have the option to select the appointment date for submission of application to the Mission Counter. Click on Confirm the Appointment.
  •  Another new screen will open after you have click& confirm on Confirm the Appointment, with two options to Print or Save the online application. Save the online application.It is advisable not to print it immediately as you may lose the application by doing so. Prefer 1st to save than Print
  • There after Click - Print Registered Application to get the hardcopy of the application form. 


By any chance if you missed to upload your picture in the online application form, then paste it in the photo box on the first page. Make sure the photograph should be according to the specifications i.e., the same size as the box 50mm X 50mm i.e. 2 inch x 2 inch with light backgroundPhotos should be glued on your forms in the box provided on pages 1 and 2 of the online form.


  • There after putthe applicant signature on the rectangular box exactly below the photo box. The same needs to be done in the box at the bottom of the second page.
  • Final step Deposit the application form along with the essential enclosures at the high Mission Counter on the scheduled appointment date, mentioned at the right margin of the application, during the scheduled  hours .
  • You can check your visa status by clicking on the Visa Status Enquiry.




In order to ascertain and Confirm the Medical Visa – The Indian Mission and Posts will check and authenticate the documents regardless of your country of origin. Apart from this they will also have to submit the medical history that they have received in their own country and communication exchanged with the Hospital/Doctor & the final plan they opted to travel to India for the specialized treatment.


The most important point to note is that medical treatment is allowed and further medical visa is granted only on the basis of treatment provided by the reputable and recognized medical centres.

Medical Visa Information – Visa Extensions


Medical visa extension is planned and worked out when the patient requires some more time for the treatment or doctor has advised for another set of treatments pertaining to the ailments or new diagnosis if any. For the Extension patient will have to obtain letter from the Hospital and enclose other important requirements for medical visa extension are:


  • Applicant’s photo
  • Page with photo
  • Validity page of passport
  • Page marking/showiing arrival stamp of Indian Immigration
  • Visa with endorsement
  • Form C copy from Hotel or Lodge/ electricity bill/ landline telephone/ municipal bill of the landlord if staying in a friend or relative’s house along with a letter and photo id card of the landlord.(proof of stay)
  • In case of rented accommodation, copy of the lease and license agreement (first and last page containing validity) is required.
  • Letter from the treatment  in  hospital (during extension) where the treatment is taken clearly mentioning the duration of the treatment and period of extension required.
  • Registration Certificate / Residential Permit.


* Foreigners are required to create their own USER-ID by registering themselves online on e-FRRO portal. Afterwards, they are required to apply online through registered user-id for various Visa and Immigration related services in India viz.


* It is advisable to submit your application for an extension as early as possible in the period of 28 days before your current Visa runs out (i.e. at the end of the 30 months). That said, do not worry if you submit your application before the expiry date, but your appointment at a visa centre is after it expires.




All foreigners (including foreigners of Indian origin) visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa and Employment Visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned having jurisdiction over the place where the foreigner intends to stay, within 14 days of arrival. However, Pakistan nationals are required to register within 24 hours of their arrival. All Afghan nationals are required to register with the FRRO/FRO concerned within 14 days of arrival except those Afghan nationals who enter India on a visa valid for 30 days or less provided the Afghan national concerned gives his/her local address in India to the Indian Mission/FRRO/FRO. The Afghan nationals who are issued visas with ‘ Exemption from police reporting’ are exempt from Police reporting as well as Exit permission provided they leave within the Visa validity period.

E-Tourist Visa  with Medical Travel to India


E-tourist visa is granted to the following criteria :


  •  If you are visiting India for the Holidaying (tourism) sight seeing, meet friends and relatives, casual business visit and a normal medical treatment
  • Visitors who do not have permanent address or business activity in India
  • Passport Validity of more than 6 months 
  • Visitors who show enough fund backing and support during the stay in India (fixed date of arrival and Departure)

India e-visa processing fee is the amount of money that the applicant is required to pay in advance for the visa at the time of filling the online Indian visa application. This India visa cost surrounds checking your document and verification by the officer as well as making the decision whether to approve or reject the application.


On your part, this process starts with the filling the online form requiring the personal information, uploading proper documents as per requirements, submitting fees and waiting for the feedback.
