Eligibility for Indian Medical Visa from Somalia


  • Patient & accompanying Co passenger is granted a medical visa if they are going to another country with the sole purpose for medical treatment. The total duration of the visa is maximum of one year.
  • Most important they should seek medical treatment at reputed/recognized/specialized hospitals in India .

  • Only two attendants are allowed to travel with the patient. They should be members of the patient family or close associates.

  • There is a comprehensive list of ailments for which medical visa is granted to India that ranges from cardiac treatment, neurosurgery,ophthalmic disorders, organ transplantations to congenital disorders, radiotherapy,gene therapy, plastic surgery, joint replacement, tumours , spinal issues cardiac and others.


Important Documents Required for IndiaMedical Visa from Somalia

Visa Applicants should fill online visa application forms on and submit a print out of filled-in form with two colour photographs (51mm x 51mm) with white background (not older than 3 months) and documents as specified below.

• Visa fee structure for some specified nationalities is indicated separately.

ICWF means Indian Community Welfare Fund.

• Applications can be submitted only with the prior appointment. Please see list of holidays for the year 2019.

Services shall commence only after the confirmation of payment by the Bank.

Partially filled applications or applications with incorrect personal particulars shall not be accepted.


Yellow Fever and Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV)


The Yellow Fever and Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) are mandatory for all the visitors (including patients), of all nationalities, travelling to India from the countries of accreditation of this Mission i.e. Kenya and Somalia. The Yellow Fever medicines should be administered at least 10 days and OPV at least 4 weeks prior to traveling India through a Government approved medical clinic, Institute or hospital. The certificates of Yellow Fever and Polio Vaccination should be carried along with the other immigration documents. This is a mandatory requirement as per the Government of India’s regulations.


Documents required:


i) Filled-in and signed hard copy of the online visa application form;


ii) Two recent colour photographs;


iii) Letter of invitation from an approved Hospital/recognized Doctor in India mentioning name of patent/attendant(s), Passport number(s), illness and duration of treatment;


iv) Medical documents establishing the need for taking medical treatment in India along with local hospital/doctor referral letter.


v) Proof of availability of sufficient funds for stay in India including the expenses for medical treatment by producing original documents such as Bank statement (past six months) , salary certificate, sponsorship/insurance letter etc.;


A Medical/Medical Attendant visa is normally issued in 3 working days, exclusive of the day on which application is made. However, in cases of medical emergency, it may be issued in one working day (excluding the day of submission and subject to deposition of fee on the day of submission of application).


Note: In cases where an applicant wishes to visit for organ transplantation, following additional documents are required:


i. Separate notarized agreements between the donor and the recipient duly signed by the either parties. The agreement should also specify the relationship between the donor and the recipient.


ii. Notarized consent letter from the care taker.


iii. Notarized consent letter from the parents or either of the parents, in case of minor children


iv. Medical reports and letter from the Ministry of Health.


All the above documents should be duly attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before submission.


The No Objection Letter is retrieved from the Embassy of Somalia located in Kenya and Ethiopia whereas the medical visa application has to be submitted at the Indian High Commission of any of the two countries.

General information


  • 1. Medical visa is issued to seek medical treatment in established/ recognised/ specialized hospitals/treatment centers in lndia.
  • 2. Medical visa of a foreigner undergoing treatment in lndia can initially be extended in lndia before expiry of the visa by the State Governments/FRROs on production of medical certificate/advice from established/recognized/specialized hospital/treatment centres in lndia.
  • 3. With a patient only two persons (attendant or family members) can get medical attendant (MED X) visa.
  • 4. Medical attendant visa (MED X) will be co-terminus with the medical visa of the patient.

  • The form consists of three pages in total. Fill up each page of the form with your correct details. Click Save and Continue at the bottom after you finish filling up each page.
  • Fill columns of your family address and your profession or occupation.


  • Visa application procedure is same for Medical Tourist Visa or Normal Tourist Visa
  • The Only point of Difference here is that for the Purpose of visit for entering India will be “ Availing Medical Treatment”.
  • Once you that , you would further fill the form Nature of Disease and you opted for India


  • Continue with your medical visa application Information regarding the hospital& treatment in home country & the associate hospital in India, time taken of treatment, expected number of entries/ visits, purpose of visit, expected date of journey, expected time of arrival and departure, other information, details about SAARC country visit and reference updates


** As the Travel is planned for the treatment to India only through NTP Healthcare support system & you do not have a reference in India, then you can provide NTP Healthcare office address .


  • Upload Photo – Please upload the photo and finally take print of the form and keep with you Recent or Normal in your computer.
  • Once you Save and Continue on the last page i.e., third page, a preview containing all your uploaded details will appear.
  • Go through them once again you have option of Click on Modify/Edit if there is any error.
  • Click on Verified &proceed if all the data entered by you is appropriate
  • Follow the set of instructions that pop up on the new window and press OK for final registration. If you want to modify details click Cancel.
  • Then click OK a window will pop up where you would have the option to select the appointment date for submission of application to the Mission Counter. Click on Confirm the Appointment.
  • Another new screen will open after you have click& confirm on Confirm the Appointment, with two options to Print or Save the online application. Save the online application.It is advisable not to print it immediately as you may lose the application by doing so. Prefer 1st to save than Print
  • There after Click - Print Registered Application to get the hardcopy of the application form.
  • By any chance if you missed to upload your picture in the online application form, then paste it in the photo box on the first page. Make sure the photograph should be according to the specifications i.e., the same size as the boxwo colour photographs (51mm x 51mm) with white background (not older than 3 months
  • There after putthe applicant signature on the rectangular box exactly below the photo box. The same needs to be done in the box at the bottom of the second page.
  • Final step Deposit the application form along with the essential enclosures at the high Mission Counter on the scheduled appointment date, mentioned at the right margin of the application, during the scheduled hours (0930 hours – 1130 hours).
  • JPEG should be the format of the photo.
  • The photo should have equal height and width with dimensions between 350 and 1000 pixels.
  • Full face of the applicant should be clear in the photo with frontal view and eyes open.
  • The background colour should be white / light coloured.
  • There should be no borders / shadows on the face and the background.
  • Go through the preview of the application form that appears on a new window after you click on Save and Continue on the last page of the form.

  • Click on Verified and Continue if all the details entered by you are correct. In case of changes and rectifications, click on Modify and Edit.
  • Read the set of instructions that appear on a new window carefully and click on Confirm the Appointment. To change any of the data, click Cancel.
  • Select a suitable date of appointment for the submission of the online visa application at the concerned Mission Counter.
  • Save your online visa application form before you print it.
  • Go to the homepage of the Indian Visa Online website and click on Print Registered Application.
  • Select your visa type and the Indian Mission, type in your application ID, date of birth, passport number and the access code and click on Reprint.
  • Put your full signature in the required places in the form and submit the application along with the necessary documents at the Mission Counter on the appointed date. The date is mentioned at the right margin of the application.


In order to ascertain and Confirm the Medical Visa – The Indian Mission and Posts will check and authenticate the documents regardless of your country of origin. Apart from this they will also have to submit the medical history that they have received in their own country and communication exchanged with the Hospital/Doctor & the final plan they opted to travel to India for the specialized treatment.


The most important point to note is that medical treatment is allowed and further medical visa is granted only on the basis of treatment provided by the reputable and recognized medical centres.

Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF): Each Service is subject to a surcharge of Ksh.300/-, in respect of Passport, Attestation & Miscellaneous Consular Services, and Ksh 400/-, in respect Visa, OCI/PIO services, towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), in addition to the passport/consular fees as mentioned above.

Medical Visa Information Once to land in India (FRRO office)


l foreigners (including foreigners of Indian origin) visiting India on long term (more than 180 days) Student Visa, Medical Visa, Research Visa and Employment Visa are required to get themselves registered with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO)/ Foreigners Registration Officer (FRO) concerned having jurisdiction over the place where the foreigner intends to stay, within 14 days of arrival. However, Pakistan nationals are required to register within 24 hours of their arrival. All Afghan nationals are required to register with the FRRO/FRO concerned within 14 days of arrival except those Afghan nationals who enter India on a visa valid for 30 days or less provided the Afghan national concerned gives his/her local address in India to the Indian Mission/FRRO/FRO. The Afghan nationals who are issued visas with ‘ Exemption from police reporting’ are exempt from Police reporting as well as Exit permission provided they leave within the Visa validity period.

Medical Visa Extension


Medical visa extension is required when one has to stay in India for his/her treatment beyond the duration of his/her medical visa. In that case, after his/her medical visa expires or just a few days before its expiry date, one has to go to the FRRO office along with an official document from the hospital stating the patient’s name, his/her treatment procedure and the extra time required for the completion of his / her treatment and other necessary documents .




It is mandatory for international travellers to get themselves registered at FRRO offices after their arrival in India. FRRO or Foreign Regional Registration Office administers the important official nuances regarding the visa, arrival, stay and departure of foreigners. The documents required for an FRRO registration is listed below:
